Elden Ring DLC Guide: The "Dishonest" Light Roll Dexterity Build (89 Poise)

Welcome back to another DLC build guide. Today, we are running something that feels absolutely illegal: a Dexterity build with high poise that can still Light Roll. If you saw my Light Roll Strength build, you know the vibe. I wanted to test that same concept with Dex weapons because they benefit massively from extra spacing. Dex weapons have amazing combo potential, but they lack the hyper armor of Strength weapons. You have to space tighter... unless you can light roll out of danger. If you ever find yourself short on resources to optimize this setup, you can always buy Elden Ring Runes to speed up the grinding process. Here is how to become an un-catchable, poise-having, katana-wielding menace.

The Core Philosophy: Why "Dishonest"?

This build is called "dishonest" because it breaks the rules of engagement.

· Normally: Light armor (low poise) = Fast roll. Heavy armor (high poise) = Fat/Medium roll.

· This Build: You wear heavy enough armor to hit 89 Poise, yet you still perform a Light Roll.

· This lets you escape gank situations instantly, set up Ashes of War, and roll-catch opponents who think you’re squishy.

Stats (The "Near even" Spread)

This is a Dexterity & Endurance build. You need a ton of Endurance to light roll with heavy armor.

· Vigor: 60 (Non-negotiable).

· Mind: 20-25 (You spam Ashes of War).

· Endurance: Very High (Aim for 40-50+. Check your equipment load constantly).

· Strength: Minimum required for your weapon.

· Dexterity: 60-80 (Your primary damage stat).

· Int/Fai/Arc: Base (We aren't casting spells, we are casting hands).

· Pro Tip: In the video, the stats ended up being "almost an even amount between Dexterity and Endurance." Do not neglect stamina/equip load.

Weapons (The Katana Arsenal)

You have three main blades for this setup, each serving a different "dishonest" purpose.

1. The Spacing Monster: Sword of Night

· Ash of War: Witching Hour Slash

· Why use it: This Ash has incredible forward momentum. Use the light roll to back off, then immediately use the Ash to lunge back in. The R2 follow-up combo works perfectly with the Two-Handed Sword Talisman.

2. The "Get Off Me" Button: Hand of Malenia

· Ash of War: Waterfowl Dance

· Why use it: When a gank squad surrounds you, light roll out, then Waterfowl Dance in. In the video, Chase uses this to fly through the air and delete phantoms (and a "Super Saiyan" wizard).

3. The Hyper Armor Trade: Rakshasa's Great Katana

· Ash of War: Weed Cutter

· Why use it: This is your only hyper armor option. When you can't roll, use this to power through a hit and blend the enemy.

4. The Roll Catch: The "Fox" (Great Katana /特定 weapon)

· Why use it: Chase mentions using the "Fox" to chase runners down. Use the Ash of War to consecutively roll-catch panic rollers. If they turn on you? Light roll away.

Armor: The 89 Poise Breakpoint

You do not need a specific "set," but you need a specific number: 89 Poise.

· Why 89? It allows you to tank through light weapon hits (daggers, thrusting swords, katanas) without flinching while you start your Ash of War.

· Fashion: Chase loves the "Circlet of Light" (gives +1 Faith/Arc) and general "solid defense" armor.

· The Rule: Mix and match your heaviest armor pieces (Lionel, Bull-Goat, or Verdant) with lighter pieces until you hit 89 Poise while maintaining Light Load.

Talismans (The "Standard" Setup)

You have four slots. Three are flexible, one is mandatory.

Talisman

Purpose

Great-Jar's Arsenal

Mandatory. This is how you cheat the system. You need this to wear heavy armor and light roll.

Bull-Goat's Talisman

Increases your poise. This helps you hit the 89 breakpoint without wearing full heavy armor.

Shard of Alexander

Buffs your Ash of War damage (Waterfowl, Witching Hour, Weed Cutter). Mandatory for damage.

Two-Handed Sword Talisman

Highly Recommended. Buffs your R2/R1 follow-ups after the Sword of Night combo.

Note on Great-Jar vs. Erdtree's Favor: Chase mentions that "Erdtree's Favor" works for lighter weapons, but if you are wielding a Great Katana, you need Great-Jar's Arsenal to stay at Light Load.

How to Fight (The Gameplay Loop)

Based on the invasions in the video, here is the flowchart:

1. The Spacing Dance (vs. Ganks)

· Situation: 3 players rushing you.

· Action: Light roll backwards. You will travel twice as far as they expect.

· Punish: As they whiff, hit L2 (Sword of Night) . The forward momentum closes the gap. Light roll out again.

2. The Wizard Counter (vs. Spell Spam)

· Situation: A comet wizard or "Wave of Gold" spammer on a bridge.

· Action: Use the environment (trees/pillars) to block magic. Light roll through the spell spam.

· Punish: "You can't catch the light load dex build." Run in, hit R2, and immediately roll out. You are playing dodgeball.

3. The Blender Escape (vs. Dual Spears/Curved Swords)

· Situation: You are surrounded and getting stun-locked.

· Action: Do not try to trade. Roll once. Because you light roll, you will exit the blender range instantly.

· Punish: If they chase, swap to Rakshasa's Katana and use Weed Cutter (Hyper Armor) to turn and burn.

Match Example (From the Transcript)

"I love that I can escape the range of that thing just by rolling right now. Usually, it’s kind of a problem."

Scenario: An enemy uses a massive tornado AoW.

· Medium Roll User: Gets caught in the edge, loses 50% HP.

· You (Light Roll): Press dodge once. You are now fully outside the danger zone.

· Result: You charge an R2 while they recover, then use your Ash of War to finish them.

The "Chase the Bro" Pro Tips

1. The Elevator Tech: Use elevators to isolate phantoms from the host. Light roll allows you to dodge attacks while the elevator is moving.

2. Don't trust Wizards: If you see a wizard drinking the "blue juice" at 1 HP, they are making a ridiculous choice. Punish them with a poke.

3. The Gift: If a host loses their phantom and looks sad, try dropping a crab (cooked prawn). If they don't trust you, leave them be. Honor > K/D ratio.

4. Endure: Keep Endure on a backup weapon or in your physick. If you need to trade with a hyper-armor weapon, pop Endure first.

Final Verdict

I really enjoyed the light roll strength variant with poise, so I thought I would try with dex. Hope you guys enjoy the invasions." This build is S-tier for invasions. You have the damage of a dexterity build, the poise of a strength build, and the movement speed of a naked person. It is dishonest. It is fun. If you want to put this build together quickly without hours of farming, you can buy cheap Elden Ring Items from MMOEXP to get all the weapons, armor, and talismans you need right away.
